Qué hacer con la piel pelada por el sol
Más allá de enrojecimiento, dolor o quemazón, la piel pelada es uno de los signos de que nos expusimos a los rayos solares durante demasiado tiempo. Las quemaduras solares son una respuesta inflamatoria de la piel ante el daño ocasionado por la radiación ultravioleta (UV), cuando una exposición excesiva sobrepasa los mecanismos de defensa natural protectores.
Cuando ocurre una exposición solar suficiente como para causar que la piel se queme y se pele, quiere decir que el ADN de las células fue dañado por la radiación UV, causando inflamación y dilatación de los capilares sanguíneos.
Esas células dañada sufren muerte celular y gracias a la capacidad de reparación de la piel se eliminan cuando esta se pela. En concreto, se descama la capa más superficial. Lo que hace el organismo es eliminar las células dañadas para que sean sustituidas por otras nuevas.
Por tanto, el hecho de que se pele la piel es un mecanismo regenerador del organismo, aunque esto no quiere decir que sea bueno. A largo plazo, las consecuencias no están limitadas a los signos más visibles, es decir, al ardor, rojeces, hinchazón o ampollas en los casos más severos. La radiación UVA es capaz de penetrar hasta las capas más profundas y causar a largo plazo envejecimiento cutáneo, conocido como fotoenvejecimiento, que se manifiesta por el desarrollo precoz de arrugas, flacidez y pérdida del brillo y elasticidad.
Las quemaduras solares repetidas, especialmente durante la infancia, son un factor predisponente para el cáncer de piel. Además del envejecimiento, otros efectos de la descamación a nivel estético son la aparición de manchas o de lesiones vasculares.
No es para nada recomendable quitarse la piel pelada, simplemente, hay que dejar que el proceso natural de reparación ocurra. Si la arrancás pueden aparecer heridas que son la entrada a posibles infecciones bacterianas o, incluso, cicatrices en personas con predisposición a desarrollarlas.
Consejos para cuidar la piel descamada por el sol:
– No exfoliarse, pues puede hacer que la piel pelada se desprenda prematuramente.
– Secar la piel a toquecitos, no frotarla con la toalla.
– Aplicar paños con agua fría sobre la quemadura para calmar la inflamación.
– Darse la ducha con agua templada o fría, sin que el chorro sea demasiado fuerte.
-Beber mucha agua para mantenerse hidratado y así compensar el aumento de la pérdida de agua que se produce a través de la piel debido al daño ocasionado por la quemadura.
-Aplicar productos emolientes calmantes y testados dermatológicamente.
-Evitar el uso de cremas anestésicas o cosméticas que pueden causar sensibilización y alergia por contacto.
-No exponer la piel al sol hasta que se haya reparado por completo y siempre con fotoprotectores con alta protección UVB/UVA.
– En caso de que se formen ampollas o se manifiesten síntomas como fiebre, escalofríos, náuseas, vómitos o dolor intenso, acudir al médico para que evalúe el caso y aplique un tratamiento acorde a la severidad de la quemadura.
